Developing Process Of A Business Plan And Entrepreneurial...

Introduction Entrepreneurs establish Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), which are playing an increasingly significant role in the global economy. According to the recent statistics of UK, of all private sector businesses, SMEs accounted for 99.3% at the start of 2015; 60% employment at 15.6 million; and 47% annual turnover at  £1.8 trillion (FSB.org, 2015). Thus, it is of vital importance to understand how to formulate and operate an SME. This reflective essay, therefore, mainly focuses on two topics of SMEs: the developing process of a business plan and entrepreneurial finance, which is a key aspect for SMEs to operate successfully. Personal experiences and group behavior are blended into theoretical approaches to critically evaluate various financial aspects. Christopher Johns’ Model of Reflection is adopted in financial part of this essay where individual reflection is portrayed. Figure 1 provides an overview of this model as five cue elements: description; reflection; influencing factors; evaluation; and learning. Figure 1: Johns’ Model of Reflection Source: Johns C, 1994 1. Media Role Models and the Effect on Children - 3275 Words

Media construct our culture, and the media we use to communicate with one another shapes our perception of reality. Our society is centered on media, it is the most influential factor in constructing our culture, but is it a positive culture? If we examine the effect that media has on children, we can say that it breeds a harmful culture, one that throws values and morals out the window. This is because the media is profit driven and has developed its own code of ethics of anything-goes. As a result, children are exposed to things that they should not necessarily be exposed to yet and as a result it rushes their mental development and in fact moulds their mentality. This is a scary fact because these childrens minds are susceptible†¦show more content†¦Another example we could look at is Britney Spears, young girls who like Britney Spears think that she is ‘cool and thus they strive to be just like her, and this involves acting like Britney and more importantly buyi ng Britney Spears products such as her clothing. So in conclusion these media personalities are popular among children and idolized by them because they are promoted as being cool and for a child to be cool they must be just like them, which involves buying their products. These media personalities are in essence products themselves that the media bodies try to sell to children on the basis of ‘cool, and once they can be sold to the children as being cool, their entire franchise benefits because their image can create the demand for all products with their likeness. Now lets look at the effect that these media personalities have on children in the age group 5 and under. We assume that children are safe watching educational programming such as Blues Clues, Dora the explorer and Teletubbies, but are they really as safe as we think they are. First off, these types of television shows are educational and do in fact teach young children while keeping them entertained. Future HR Business Partner Model †Free Samples to Students

Question: Discuss about the Future HR Business Partner Model. Answer: Introduction: Human Resource Department is considered to be one of the most important aspects of the business organization. The work culture demands that the human resource department works hand in hand with the management so as to enable the various activities and to increase the productivity of the organization (Ulrich 1997). The given essay is aimed at highlighting the Human resource business model as developed by Dave Ulrich. Dave Ulrich had stated that Human Resource is an important aspect of the organization without which a business cannot function. The model developed to become the Ulrich Model which began to serve as a relevant benchmark for the HR Professionals today. The essay is divided into three critical parts. The first part of the essay throws light on the critical analysis of the literature available on the model followed by the evolution of the model over a span of 20 years (Purce 2014). The last part of the essay states how Human Resource Business Model tends to contribute toward s organization`s sustainable success. The four key roles or departments in which the HR Function of the organization can be divided into are the HR Business Partner, Change Agent, Administrative Expert and as an Employee Advocate. According to Renwick, Redman and Maguire (2013), the role as a Human Resource Business Partner is the primary function of a HR Department. The primary purpose of the department is to build long lasting and sustainable relationships with the internal clients of the business environment (Ulrich 1997). These clients can be described as the employees who have been working for the organization. Together with the firm, the Human Resource Department must help out the employees and motivate them to achieve the goals of the organization. The functions of HR as a Business Model range from various duties from handling their pay roll, to recruiting and selecting new employees in the organization. Goetsch and Davis (2014), state that the Human Resource Department is a strategic business partner of a large o rganization because it performs cross functional projects which aim to fulfill the goals of the organization and increase their productivity. According to Hameed, Ramzan and Zubair (2014), the second role of a HR Manager is to act as a Change Agent. As a change Agent, the human resources team has to take part in the change management which the organization witnesses. Change is a critical part of any organization and it is the duty of the HR Department to motivate and help the employees during the process of change. Hayes (2014),states that during the times of change, the organization conducts various training sessions for the existing employees in order to help them to adapt by the change which is important for the progress of the organization. Hence, as stating by Marchington et al. (2016), through this role, the HR Function of the organization makes the various changes easy for the employees and plays its role as a Change Agent for the organization. The third role that the Human Resource Organization has to play is that of An Administration Expert. According to Gatewood, Feild and Barrick (2015), this role of the Human Resource Department is transactional. It is very important for a Human Resource Department to be a trustworthy administrator who manages various aspects of the Employee relations and management in the firm. These aspects include work and safety rules, regulations, and legislations. Alfes et al. (2013), states that they are bound to maintain a database of all the employees and have to manage their well being in an organization. The fourth role according to the Model stated by Dave Ulrich is the role of the Human Resource Department as an advocate of the employees of an organization. According to Bratton and Gold (2017), the HR Department needs to protect the needs of the employees and ensure that the strategic initiatives of the organization are maintained. The department conducts meetings surveys in order to recognize the gap which exists in the organization and make changes in the same. The training and support sessions that are conducted by the Human Resource Department helps to improve the relative experience of the employees. Cascio (2018),States that that the Human Resource Department needs to carry out various grievance processes in order to ensure that the employees are satisfied in an organization. The given section highlights the evolution of the model over the years. The model stated by Dave Ulrich dates back to 1997 which was twenty years back. Since that time the various roles and functions of the organization with respect to its Human Resource Department has evolved greatly. The Business organizations today tend to depend greatly on the soft agendas which may be referred to as organizational capabilities and talent management. The main purpose of the HR Professionals is now concerned with providing the right job to the right skilled people. The recent competitive business environment has raged a talent war where all the companies want to hire the best talent in an organization. The HR Business model had stated that the Human Resource Department is concerned with making strategies of the organization for the development of the employees. However, according to Cascio (2018), just making strategies for the business organization is not the only relative factor now, the Human Resource Department will also be responsible for assisting the organization to carry out and implement these strategies. As the nature of businesses has been changing continuously, the business partner model tends to now focus on the issues that the general management tends to face. The requirements of a business model have thus, become more demanding than ever. According to Ulrich and Brockbank (2016), the Business partner model of human resources has changed completely as not all Human Resource Professionals will be able to perform the role of a business partner. This is because of the varied size of the organization; they will not be able to link the day to day work to the results which are required out of the business. Bratton and Gold (2017), state that the HR profession is now quickly evolving and aims to add more value through a refined strategic focus. However, based on the old model, the HR professionals are unable to live up to the expectations of the current environment. With reference to the Change Manager, research states that only the top 20% of the Human Resource Individuals are being able to live up to the new expectations and are becoming a part of the change management. Whereas, the lower 20% is not being able to get there. However the middle 60% can achieve their goals through little training. Hence, if all the Human resource employees are not being able to become a part of the change initiative they will not be able to become a business partner as they will not be able to practically connect their work to the results of the business. When this model was developed back in 1997, technology had just started changing our lives and hence, the model does not make adequate considerations about the technological aspect of the business environment. With the advent in technology, the Human Resource Professionals need to have adequate knowledge and skills about the use of technology and its application in business. Earlier, their focus lied on negotiating and managing the policy terms with respect to the employee transactions (Ulrich 1997). However, in today`s business environment the business partner model demands the HR Professionals to connect their daily work to the business but these skills are necessarily not present in the employees. Hence, the failure to possess these skills will diminish the role of the HR as a business partner. Therefore, as the business environment has evolved the given model has also evolved and now demands a variety of changes from the side of the Human Resource Department. From the analysis it could be stated that the given business model goes a long way in contributing towards the sustainable success of the business organization. The model is extremely useful as it clearly divides the work of the organization into four different aspects. This helps in easy functioning of the organization and is useful for the given reasons. It creates a culture of business success. The business model is successful in setting the business culture. It helps the employees to associate themselves with the business organization and helps them to build a positive aspect about the firm. The Business partner aspect helps the organization to achieve the right talent through successful recruitment and selection techniques. When the right candidates are selected for the organization then the organizational vision is upheld. The Business HR Model also helps a firm to evaluate the activities of the Human Resource Organization based on the company goals. As a strategic business partner, the department assists the firm in carrying out the various activities of the organization and helps in increasing the productivity. Another important contribution of the business model is to assist the firm in making the best decisions for the organization. As the human resource department makes the employee decisions and employees are considered to be the best aspect of the organization hence, the business model of Human Resource assists the organization to make the best use of their employees in achievement of business goals. Renee free essay sample

Throughout my life, I have seen many of my friends fall by the wayside. They have struggled, stumbled, and fallen all too comfortably into the stride of mediocrity despite what they were capable of. One person in particular breaks my heart each time I see her. Renee and I were best friends for the bulk of my childhood. From elementary school to high school we were one another’s support through life. We grew up together through those awkward phases and those strange years of confusion. Renee was my diary and my security blanket through a lot of my struggles. During our sophomore year, everything came to a grinding, shattering halt. Renee made the foreboding decision to give her virginity to the boy that she’d been dating, on and off, for a year. In addition to this mishap, she’d also thrown her other morals to the wind, falling into the abyss of marijuana. We will write a custom essay sample on Renee or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Although she swore that she wasn’t addicted, she constantly denied my challenges of abstaining. Her decisions created first a crack, then a chasm in out friendship. I felt her slip from me and the lives that we used to lead. Eventually, I stopped reaching for her, ceased to offer my aid. Today, Renee is seventeen with a year-old child on her tired hip. I don’t know if she still smokes pot, but I do know that cigarettes have caught her in their smoky, tantalizing grip. She is attempting to realign her life, trying to get back on track. Renee graduated a year early and is a full-time student at the local community college. She’s proud of these achievements, happy with her â€Å"good enough’s† and comfortable with her mediocrity. She was a brilliant girl; she would have done amazing things. Renee is my birth control and my personal anti-drug. To me, she is a warning of what I could become if I make the wrong choices, or if I fall in the trials of life and do not fight to get back up. I look into her tired brown eyes as she takes a drag on a cigarette, and I see myself in a year if I do not keep my morals strong and firm. For Renee and myself I push to achieve everything that I can. I strive to become the person that she should have been, but didn’t have the strength to see in herself. So that I don’t become a ghost of myself, as she did, I try to accomplish all that I am capable of.

Examination of the Organizational structure and logistics service innovation of Hewlett Packard The WritePass Journal

Examination of the Organizational structure and logistics service innovation of Hewlett Packard Examination of the Organizational structure and logistics service innovation of Hewlett Packard IntroductionBackground Case AnalysisWe put here graphConclusion: Related Introduction HP is one of the most famous and well known names in the whole world of IT world. It has branches in more than hundred and seventy countries in the whole world. HP does its best to find out the best ways and solutions to introduce technology and services that is applicable to help people and companies to deal with the problems and challenges they faces in the modern daily life, HP group tries to manage   possibilities, aspirations and dreams of its customers around the world. Hp company has the concept of applying what is new in thoughts and ideas, dealing with the technology that is enriched in experience and worthy ideas. So we will discus in this report about the big main problem that Hp company faced with its organizational structure, communication, customers services and satisfaction. And without these four factors the company might never success because they are the most important things the company must consider it. Background HP stands for Hewlett-Packard who are the founders of the company. When they established the company in 1939, their initial capital investment was US$538. Its an American company which producing electronic products such as laptops, printers, smart phones, scanners, monitors, electronic, accessories, photo printing service and †¦etc. From 1940s until 1990s the company started focusing on producing electronic test equipment. As the business grew and became wider in HP, they hired more product designators and they started using more accessories, supplies, software, and components. From 1999 until 2005 Carly Fiorina worked as chief executive officer of HP. She is an American businesswoman who was one of the republican nominee for the united states senate. Under her responsibility In 2002, the company united with the its competitor   computer company Compaq. Carly did many problems for HP, one of the worst problems is interrelated to organizational structure. She made 11 layers. For example, an owner of virgin store want to purchase printers from HP, he couldnt contact with the one who is responsible for this transaction , because there were many managerial levels so customers cant reach the specific demanded employee, they have to go through many steps and appointments. It takes a very long time to get their requirements and demand. So they end up disappointed and not satisfied. On the other hand, the company loss their customers which leads losing profit. For this confusing customers and shareholders which was held by carly, the company end up exposed to shu tdown . After that in 2005, she demitted as chief executive officer and chairman of HP. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carly_Fiorina Mark hurd became in replacement of Fiorina   and took the lead after she stepped down . He became the new chief executive officer and chairman of Hp from February 10, 2005 untill March 28, 2005. Robert P. Wayman was the chief financial officer and executive vice president of the Hewlett-Packard Company. He became interim chief executive officer for several months before hurd came and took the position. Hurd was assigned as the permanent chief executive officer and also appointed as the President. Somark fixed what has been damaged by carly. He tried to remove matrices at every turn, and minimize the levels of management. He did his best in turning hp IT main   interior belt up and on strengthening and modifying the real estate achievement   and performance over the   years that followed his being in the position. Also, Mark gave great intention to technology, and to set up a powerful ties and improved productions to afford to the customers around the globe. These great effort s were crowned with a massive increase in the income and enlarging of the company and raised the price stock of shareholders and dealers, and a minimized the amounts needed for the structure to help HP to have   a strong ability to face the market that has other competitors as in the international IT market. As a result and under his leadership, the company developed and became the top of   the sale of desktop computers in 2007, and   in 2006   laptop computers. Since 2008, HP developed   the market share in inkjet and laser printers to 46% and 50.5%, greatly. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_hurd Case Analysis This case relates to many issues, the case shows that HP had a very long and a bad organizational structure which lead to had no communication inside the organization and between employees. And if any organization have problems in communication inside the organization it self and between employees then employees will not be able to communicate with customers to know the desires, demands and the suggestions of the customers. For this reason, employees will not be able to serve the customers. As a result, the customers will not be satisfied and the organization will lose customers and profit as well. The main issue and the most important issue in this case appear in the organizational structure.   It starts from the organizational structure, it can make the organization rises or falls by making the environment in the organization easy in communication and cooperation or hard. When managers or people want to start business or work they do planning after they done with the planning, they need to begin to work on the plan and the first step to apply the plan is by designing an organizational structure. The objectives and strategy of the organization that you want to achieve them, determine the design of an organizational structure. According to design an organizational structure, we should first know what is organizational structure ?. We can define organizational structure in one important word which is â€Å"the framework† and that’s mean to divide the jobs and duties in the organization in a way that help the organization communicate inside and outside the organization. An organizational structure determines the authority, responsibility, coordinating, overseeing the work and controlling. The creation and the design of organizational structure shows how information flows between the managerial levels which as a result affect on the work flow and productivity.   Refrences; Role sets and organization structure Carly fiorina made a very long structure . When managers create, design and change the structure , they should consider these six points which are the key elements of an organizational design. The six key elements are; work specialization, departmentalization, span of control, chain of command, centralization and decentralization, and formalization.   I feel that we have to add the definition of each one because when I read it I felt it missing we didn’t explain all these points clearly and we didn’t talk about chain of command so just read it again and let me now. logistics service shows if the organization have a strong and a good structure or not . because it helps in building the relationships with customers, switching costs and making the work performance and the market activities more efficient and effective.     Refrence ; Organizational structure and logistics service innovation We will point here how the relationship between organizational structure and   logistics service innovation capability and market performance will affect on the organization. Changes in the organization strategy will cause changes in the organizational structure for example, having a shop in dubai city will be different from having shops in all united of arab emirates and that’s will affect on the size of the organization and the technology which used in the organization. The more the size of the organization is bigger the more the technology is needed and the technology becoming more complicated. Based on that the work environment in the organization will become stable or not . A successful strategies is based on the objectives, skills and capabilities of the organization, all this will determine the structure. Therefore, managers should consider that structures not a way to show the implementation of the work as carly did , instead they should consider the structure as the basic element of strategy formulation and as the basic resource that help the organization to improve and develop their performance and activities properly.  Ã‚   Refrence ; Organizational structure and logistics service innovation If the organization have all the skills , strategies,   capabilities and resources that are valuable , it will attain and achieve a lot of advantages even a competitive ones. This achievement and attainment of these advantages will make the organization improved and developed their short-term and long-term performance.  Ã‚   Refrence ; Organizational structure and logistics service innovation Carly did a lot of issues in HP. She made a high specialization, a high departmentalization and high formalization which prevent people to be creative and innovative. Also, the span of control was narrow which made many managerial levels. she thought that making many levels in the structure would make a lot of jobs opportunity but it turned out that people lost their jobs because many levels made no communication and made a bad work performance and the right information did not get to the right person through all this levels so people couldn’t achieve their jobs so they lost it.   She did Centralization in the organization because she gave the authority for top managers to make decisions and she did not make innovation and risk taking by letting low managers make decisions. This led to poor work performance and a slow of work flow   because when a non-managerial employee need to have an approval about a task they should wait for a top manager to approve and take the decisi on and that will take a long time especially if there are many levels . so the task will move from a person to another until the top manager see it and approve, that would take a very long time and will not help any urgent cases by urgent customers. So centralization reduce discussion , sharing information and exchanging   new ideas.     Ã‚  Ã‚  Refrence ; Organizational structure and logistics service innovation Therefore, the customer service will be bad and as a result the customer will not be satisfied at the end. So what carly should understand that The organizational structure should be created   based on HP company strategies , objectives, goals , skills and etc ,that HP may wish to achieve them. The organizational structure is can be defined in one word â€Å"frame work† so it is   coordinating and overseeing the work by dividing the work into smaller tasks But not many levels which make it hard for the organization to communicate and to cooperate and that’s a bad work environment .   Ã‚   Refrence ; Organizational structure and logistics service innovation What carly did led to no communication internally inside the organization it self between employees and that’s led to no cooperation between departments and employees . therefore, this bad environment work led to poor performance because the information flows between levels of management was slow and the flow of the work was slow too. so there were no or less productivity and then no or less profit. On the other hand , there is no communication externally too. No communication between the organization at the first place led to no communication between organization or employees and customers and that’s led to no cooperation between organization and customers, corporate customer and stakeholders. So the organization will not be able to serve the customer and the customer will not be satisfied . as a result the company or the organization will lose customers and profit as well and that’s   will make the company collapse and that’s what carly did with HP. We put here graph One of the most important point that organizational structure is affecting on the organization members and their behaviors. As long as the structure is simple and organic, people will have a high attainment and will work efficiently and effectively with a high motivation.   Ã‚   Refrence ; Organizational structure and logistics service innovation If these 6 points that weve discussed are high in the organization then the organizational structure is called â€Å"mechanistic† and that’s what carly did with HP . but if these 6 points are low , then the organizational structure is called â€Å"organic † and that’s what mark hurd did to solve the problems in HP. He changed the structure and its properties from â€Å"mechanistic† to   â€Å"organic † Check high \ low Mark Hurd turned out everything upside down, when he transformed the structure to organic , he canceled   3 layers of the organizational structure it minimized from 11 to 8 layers. As a result of minimizing the levels the span of control became wider , also there were more decentralization in the organization which help to save time , costs and it helps to exchange information, discussion and increase the level of communication internally and externally. and that’s led to what it called Cross functional team which means the departments employees working all together as a team. in addition, Mark Hurd reduced the formalization in HP company . for example, there were an employee didn’t attend the meeting on time , he has an excuse but the manager didn’t accept it , although the employee is a hard worker. The manager is strict and he acted so formal and he wasn’t flexible with employees   that will effect employees creativity and they will not be motivate d. That’s mean the manager got a high level of formalization . instead of that the manager should be in between not too high formalized and not too low because it will led to have flexibility and communication between managers and employees. If we have the same example but the manager was so low formalized hell be easy to go , no one will take him seriously. When the formalization has decreased the   relationship between managers and employees became more flexible and this has made the communication high and it broke the ice between them and it help them to produce more and come up with more new ideas and that called cross hierarchical teams† +refrences in case analysis and background+ search a web for   Plagerism + add charts they r 3 + table of content + editing + fix the information 3n al cross hierarchical teams +   6 points + high \ low 6 points Questions related to the case: How did Mark Hurd decide to address his company’s structural problem? How do you think the company’s costumers responded to these changes? Hurd to terminated and sent away inefficient layers of sales management. He represents one top manger that customers can contact and be in contact with. Top sales representatives started to made better decision with his team due this low waste of time. We believe that Hurd makes a great and a good change in the company; he makes the dealers pleased by solving Hp problems. He solves the customers contacting problem. He also answered the sales people problem so they can have more time with their dealers. How do you think the company customers response these changes? After the company started new structural and eliminated all the problems, they paid big attention for the customers. Customers no longer feel the time consuming. These new strategy made customers very pleased and they help the company to become at the top of leading in computer market again. As every company knows customer are the king. Customers are why organizations became. Conclusion: What we learn from this case is ..   We therefore conclude that each company should find out the good and the best CEO depending in their educational rate and their ability to hold this challenging job. Good CEO leads to customer’s satisfaction. Good CEO takes part in the problems with staff and employees so they realize that he is helpful for every situation company needs. Good CEO creates good feelings of enthusiasm among people one hand cant clap without the other, without ambience, ambition cannot success â€Å". Here at Hp Hurd tried so hard to create the ambition. He made them trust and confide in themselves because he realized that potential is always higher than where we actually are.

Aung San and Faith Bandler

?Today, lack of equality and peace are prominent issues which shape the world. Such things are demonstrated in Aung San Suu Kyi’s speech, ‘Keynote Address at the Beijing World Conference on Women’ and Faith Bandler’s speech, ‘Faith, Hope and Reconciliation’ through the use of various language devices. The common uses of emotive language between the two texts greatly affect the audience as it creates a sense of sympathy and unity. For example, ASSK states, ‘The struggle for democracy and human rights in Burma is a struggle for life and dignity. It is a struggle that encompasses our political, social and economic aspirations. ’ the repetitive use of ‘struggle’ emphasizes the hardships for the people of Burma and their desire for freedom. It is a struggle for ‘young girls’ to be driven to ‘sexual slavery where they are subject to constant humiliation’, there is a struggle for freedom, dignity and security. Her use of emotive language and repetition enables the audience to sympathise with her and the people of Burma that the causes of these struggles are lack of equality and peace in the world or our ‘global village’. Similarly in Faith Bandler’s speech, emotive language and repetition are recognised once again to unify the audience and the speaker to create a sense of sympathy which draws upon the theme of inequality and peace. It was a rather slow process for her to understand, ‘when there are millions†¦who are hungry, millions who are homeless, millions who are without work, the wrongfully imprisoned, the deaths in custody, the tortured†¦why is it so hard to find our commonalities? ’, Faith stresses the absurdity of how difficult it is for people to find ‘commonalities’ with her use of repetition of ‘millions’. Its becomes a problem when ‘millions’ are hungry, homeless and jobless as it portrays our society as unequal. The rhetorical questions asked throughout her speech such as ‘why is it so hard to find our commonalities? ’ and ‘what is reconciliation about? ’ state the obvious truths, that it isn’t hard to find reconciliation or peace within the world. Faith demonstrates a world of inequality through the use of emotive language and repetition. Suu kyi and Bandler’s speeches are effective in connecting to their audience when demonstrating the theme of equality and peace. Both activists demonstrate unity to the audience by using inclusive language and first person. For example, as Suu Kyi acknowledges the ‘strong and principled women’ who have lobbied for her release, ‘I cannot let this opportunity pass without speaking of the gratitude we feel towards our sisters everywhere. ’ The use of first person and inclusive language is evident throughout the speech, it illustrates a personal approach to her audience as well as clearly portraying her firm views of women. Bandler’s speech is also evident of the use of these devices. By using first person throughout her speech, it indicates her familiarity with the audience as she was â€Å"here once before† and also shows that she speaks from a personal experience giving the audience an idea of what she has been through such as her work in campaigning and co founding various companies. In order to move the audience about reconciliation whether it’s the ‘youth’ or the ‘not so young’, her use of first person and inclusive language connects to the audience. Both ASSK and Bandler bring their audiences together as a whole to look at common issues of the world and better ways to bring peace.

'Prior to 1850, inter-ethnic relations among Asian populations were Essay

'Prior to 1850, inter-ethnic relations among Asian populations were marked by cultural stereotypes and occasional hostility, b - Essay Example Firstly, one can consider the roles that economics and business played in the context of colonialism. At the root of this, there existed the profound desire to profit and benefit from the riches that could be extracted from around the globe. Within such an understanding, one can see that colonialism was fundamentally a means by which the colonial powers sought to better themselves, the nation, and their respect and prestige. One might argue that racism is therefore not the motive by which colonialism was able to spread its influence. However, must consider the fact of what specific mindset stimulated colonialism in the first place. Ultimately, there was the idea that other non—white populations were of little to no value and therefore could be exploited without any moral dilemmas. Thus, slavery, genocide, rape, and the deprivation of wealth and culture could be precipitated by the colonial power with little concern regarding how the actions might affect the indigenous populati ons. In such a way, the understanding that colonialism was ultimately and primarily an economic system that shows aspects of racism, begins to unravel (Chambers). Due to the fact that such a system cannot and would not have existed had there not been a profound level of racial superiority in the first place, it is the understanding of this author that the economic explanation and definition of colonialism is ultimately only part of the explanation. Secondly, for those that might be tempted to view Hirschman’s argument that colonialism was solely defined by race, it can and should be considered that the racial understanding, with regards to how Europeans integrated with the subjugated populations, differed widely based upon who the colonial ruler was and what geographic/ethnic communities they might be integrating with at the given time. Although it may be convenient to assume that colonial rule was undifferentiated, racist, xenophobic, and uniform throughout the entire world, the fact of the matter is that there was a varying degree of severity, cruelty, and respect- or disrespect, existed depending on the context. For instance, when one compares the means by which the British colonial powers integrated with and dealt with their Indian colonies, this cannot be compared with the way that they dealt with some of their African holdings. The same can of course be said with regards to the means by which the British managed and integrated with their Caribbean holdings as well as their Asian and Southeast Asian holdings. Within these areas, it was common for the British to enslave and impress the natives and various levels of servitude, such actions were not necessarily common within other colonial holdings. Evidence of this is of course seen across the board with relation to how the British interacted with every single one of their colonial possessions within Asia. Whereas colonial treatment was nominally better in sectors of mainland China and certain parts of India, the enslavement and use of the population as coolies in the majority of Asian colonies was uniform and a pervasive tactic of British and other European powers colonial method of operation (Bradley, 2004). Evidence of this can of course be seen with relation to
